Swing Out Rockford 2010

The 8th Annual Swing Out Rockford featuring Shout Section Big Band will be held Saturday, July 24th, 2010 at Rockford College Regent Hall in Rockford, IL. Lessons will be offered from 7-8pm with dancing to live music from 8pm-12am. Cost is $10 in advance (purchased on Thursday nights at swing dancing), $12 at the door. Deadline for advance ticket purchase is July 22nd.

Forest City Swing is as non-profit group. The net proceeds from the event and the net proceeds collected at weekly Thursday night swing dancing is donated to two charities in Rockford: The Rockford Rescue Mission and Rockford Sharefest.

Forest City Swing Weekend Workshops

Friday June 4th and Saturday June 5th

Welcome to Forest City Swing’s first weekend Lindy Hop workshop! Listed below are the different workshops being offered. Sign up quickly because space is limited.

These workshops will be taught by Jeremy Otth and Laura Keat. Jeremy and Laura have been honored by the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame in 2008, teach all around the world and performed on the TV show “Dancing With The Stars.” Please visit their website www.fastandfancyfeet.com for their full credentials.

Friday, June 4th

These workshops are geared towards those who are learning the Lindy Hop. Everyone, beginners and experienced dancers are encouraged to attend the Friday night workshops. Friday workshop is offered only as a package.

7:00-8:00 pm — Sweet Six Count Combos: 6 count moves and Lindy connection
8:00-9:00 pm — Swing Out Sensation: Lindy Connection and the Swing
9:00-10:00 pm — Lindy Legos: Learn to connect moves and transition smoothly

Saturday, June 5th

These workshops are for those who have some Lindy Hop experience and comfortable with the basic Lindy. These workshops are topic based. Sign up for them individually or take all of them as a package.

9:30-10:45 — Advanced Lindy FUNdamentals for everyone
Learn the technique that will turn you into and Advanced dancer sooner

10:45-12:00 — Lindy Hop Footwork and Styling
This class will help you learn some new footwork and styling to dress up your dancing as well as help you learn to create your own styling on the dance floor

1:15-2:30 — Everybody LOVES the Charleston
Learn some great partner Charleston moves, combinations and variations

2:45-4:00 — Make it Flashy!
Some great moves and tricks for showing off on the dance floor, plus the tips to make YOU look good while doing them.

Saturday June 5th Evening Dance

A Forest City Swing DJ will DJ the evening dance.
8:00- 11:30 — Dance

Forest City Swing Christmas/ New Year’s Dance

We will have swing dancing tonight, January 7Th!  The roads should be plowed throughout the night.  Please drive carefully.  We will host the Jodi Beach Trio for a night of live music!  Please bring a change of shoes to dance in so the dance floor stays dry.
